Written by Ashita Gulati Artificial Intelligence has continued to develop in multiple different ways, ranging from the innovation of new technological systems to the implementation of ideas in many of our global issues or concerns. Un-safe food consumption is one of the many determinants that could precipitate severe damage to our digestive systems or even deaths in extreme cases. It is also one of the basic commodities needed to survive, which allows us to be healthy and productive in our daily lives, through the various nutritious benefits it may contain. Thus, food safety is a major factor that we must continue to investigate and deepen our understanding on, as our cautiousness and understanding will help establish a beneficial solution to any of our concerns.
Artificial Intelligence is one of our best options to effectively monitor the sanitation of food production, food consumption, and promote healthy eating across the global community. Although AI is still developing, it would eventually evolve and enable us to utilize its features through new scientific researches, computer science studies, and specialists. AI is currently forming its presence in food industries and is now being implemented in this issue to combat any concerns and ensure food safety. Foods are transported from multiple areas, including farms, factories, as well as foreign nations. There is a certain capacity of progress a company can presume to deliver the products on time and keep track of the supply & demand chain while ensuring quality or certified foods in the market. Artificial Intelligence is a more convenient and efficient method to detect and monitor the progress of food databases, transportation systems, and analyze the nutritious benefits, expiration, and overall food safety with higher accuracy. Wellio, a San Fransisco based organization, is centered on the food safety issues that could be solved using AI, and allow a friendly environment with healthy cooking as promised, “Machine learning and behavioral science recommend recipes personalized to your unique needs.” They also have a goal of installing an “intelligent human-centered and data empowered platform”. It is discussed how their procedures would raise awareness by having the AI advise food choices, different ways of cooking, and having all transportation monitoring sorted for the customer. This will help reduce food waste and encourage the population to make use of leftovers by creating a new dish, with advise from the AI. AI is also advancing the use of software systems to improve personal hygiene across public food stations such as restaurants, where many workers and cooks, make food and deliver it to customers. Kankan, a company based in Shanghai, established a software that would help monitor the use of hats or masks for all workers in restaurants by analyzing images through facial recognition, in order to ensure sanitation for food safety. This software is then attached to a camera in the kitchen and holds the ability to detect all workers. The industry has been active by taking a step to build a solution towards this issue in the local community. The technology to sort food based on different types of manufactured goods has also been improved, as new products have been invented to define analytical abilities and process food products to ensure its quality and safety for all customers. For example, TOMRA's food sorters, are machines that process and analyze the quality of food products to optimize the speed of supplies and offer a wide range of options to maximize yields as they have gained popularity globally, across 80 countries, with 7000 machines to “offer sustainable production and distribution”. Artificial Intelligence has served many purposes in the food industries and is evolving to pave new methods in ensuring food safety across the global community through advancements of new software and technology to detect and analyze the quality of food products with side determinants of personal hygiene and sanitation.
